Problems
-
When I try to backdate something in the new format, it does not allow me to change it easily. In the old version, it would allow me to change date, month, and year without problem. I don’t want to have to click through every month of every year if I need to backdate something from a couple of years ago.
That being said, PRIVATE needs to be just that for blogs. It does not need to be available for Editors. That needs to be fixed. Private means that the person wants it Private until ready to publish. I can understand an admin having that access, but since there is only one or maybe a couple at most, that’s not a problem. There can be MANY editors on a blog, though, and Private needs to stay within the accessibility of the author until ready to publish.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
The classic editor is still available for use if it is your preference. Just go to candlelifeministries.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ to get started.
As Admin you can change user roles if necessary: https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
I will pass along the feedback re: private posts.

Yes, I understand that, but there are elements within the new editor that move you back to the new one. There is no consistency between the two. If you are really promoting the newer one, the it needs to have the identical functionality as the former one. I should not have to move back and forth to make changes like this. If you are going to allow changing of the dates, then it needs to be as easy as the older format.
Ideally, you need to allow us the option of WHICH format to use. I prefer the older one because it was simpler and easier to navigate, and it had more robust features like the ease of changing privacy, back dating, and other things.
I would prefer one editor, but I want it to have features that make it easy for us to use it. It’s not just a matter of how easy it is to make a post but how easy it is to administer it.
I’m also aware of the user roles. My point was that the privacy needs to be just that. Private until the author decides to post it. ONLY admins need the ability to see the entire site including private posts.

Thanks for your feedback on the editors. Can you clarify which one you’re using primarily right now and whether a recent change gave you trouble?
[privacy] needs to be fixed.
Several sites already rely on our current functionality. If we were to suddenly make Private posts visible by site admins only, all of those sites would break, so we won’t be changing the design at this point.
But you might try password protection for additional privacy as needed.

I used to be a designer for many years. I understand what you’re saying, but at the same time, change is inevitable. And people adapt, especially if you give them enough time and information to make the changes.
Your current system should have already included this design
I shouldn’t have to continually add layers of protection to something that should have been built in with a little more planning
it just seems like a huge oversight not to have thought through that a private post should have been private
and from what I can tell, that functionality should not be difficult to implement without making horrible changes to other designs. Private means private, and I would guess that your sites that use your current design don’t invade private blogs much.
That should be really a simple permission feature

It’s definitely not an oversight. When you mark a post private it explicitly says it will be visible only to admins and editors. With over a hundred million sites, and an untold number relying on that feature as it is designed, it’s not a change I see us making.
You are welcome to run your own installation and modify permissions as you see fit, though.
-
I guess we’ll have to run it as a modified site.
and the old site which is what we normally use doesn’t say anything about admins and editors. it just says private. It wasn’t until I tried to use your new site that it showed that.
at any rate, have a blessed day.

You too. You’ll need a plugin, which is available with the Business plan or on your own installation. More info here:
