Problems accessing site ? hacked

To all you out there in cyberspace!
I have worked on a website for a year. I use the theme Ultra from Themify. When making a routine “save” last night I got an error pop up saying ” error saving please try again” and again and again etc! The only way I could save it was to save as a revision. I backed up and closed out. Started up today with the same problem. However I have had over 100 emails since last night with the same message of
“New user registration on your site Dr. Mike Johns:
Username: hortensiaross7k021271962
Email: (email visible only to moderators and staff)”Each one with a new email address. Does this have something to do with the problem? Have I been hacked and what does it mean? I do not want to reply to any of the emails as I do not want to risk opening a virus.
I cannot seem to contact wordpress directly so I do not even know who I am directing this message to but I have nothing to loose as I cannot work on my sight. regards, Mike

It’s my personal one that I have not told anyone about yet. It does have a few pages open to the public but only so I can see it while I work on it.
I am still getting about 5 emails an hour. All say the same about the new user registration, a name and possibly a date of birth. I think it is a robot trying to hack in but do not know how to stop it. I still can’t contact Mr. WordPress!

I do not wish to offend especially as I am new here and I appreciate you are trying to help but the site is incomplete and I do not want it “out there” yet, so I am unsure what you can see if I give you the url.
Can you explain what you could diagnose from seeing the website?
Also, are members of this forum just fellow wordpress users like myself or actual wordpress staff?
Again I do not wish to offend anyone but I am new and I do not know what information I can give out without compromising the site. I am trying to see if anyone else has had this problem and whether it is fixable.
I run Wordffence which is great at “warning” me that a plugin needs an update but has not said anything about the 200 emails I now have! Regards, Mike

Yes. These forums are only for blogs/sites hosted by WordPress.com
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
And you should ask in the WordPress.org forums.
http://wordpress.org/support/If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you’ll need to register one there.

You’ve posted your question in the forums for sites hosted on WordPressdotcom (the hosted version), but by the sound of it, your site is hosted using the standalone WP (org) software and not here. WP (org) and WordPressdotcom are actually separate entities despite the name. More on that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Help for standalone WP (org) sites can be found at https://wordpress.org/support and if you don’t have a username there, you can register one on that page.
Regardless if you clicked through that tag I posted above, you’ll have seen that there are a few folks who have posted on these forums about this issue. You may want to check the ORG forums on this issue.
The only WordPressdotcom/Automattic Staff member posting here is staff-zinnia who has the words “Happiness Engineer” under her username. Both Galois and I are volunteers, Member and Moderator.

The site is not hosted on WordPress.com. There are 2 different versions of WordPress and justjennifer has shared the support guide outlining the differences between WordPress.com (here) and self hosted WordPress sites.
You’ll want to post at wordpress.org/support/ for further help as we do not have access to your account.
This is a public community forum. There are dedicated and very experienced volunteers, like justjennifer and galois who help the WordPress.com staff (myself). We work together to help our community of WordPress.com users.

justjennifer – you’re correct. I have also noticed an increase in this. It is a settings option that is being missed during setup.
