Problems after changing site address / Problem with font size (theme Sapor)

    Dear WordPress-members,

I’ve recently changed my WordPress account name as well as the WordPress URL. I deleted the old address from everywhere I could find it and updated in on my Gravatar page as well.

However, I’ve noticed that comments I made prior don’t feature the updated username, but the old name, redirecting to a blank blog (the old URL). New comments are fine and are connected to the correct blog URL. It seems like a mistake that old comments haven’t been updated and I can’t figure out what to do.

Another thing I wanted to add is that the theme I’m using (Sapor) – which I’m mostly very happy with – has a major problem with font size. The font size normal is pretty huge, the next smaller font size is tiny and there’s just no good in between. If there’s a way to change that I would love to as I wouldn’t wanna discard a great theme on one design flaw.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Hello @benleander,

    In regard to your Gravatar:
Did you create a new Gravatar account? Or you changed email address and username? I found this which I believe is yours.

    In regard to Sapor theme:
I tested it on my test website and the fonts you have are already defaults.

You can try using the Fonts section in your Customizer. *Please note that you would need to change the font from it’s default, in order to get the option to change the size.

    1. If you’re working on this – casualtrainwreck.wordpress.com – you can click here https://wordpress.com/customize/casualtrainwreck.wordpress.com to get into your blog’s Customizer.
    2. Select Fonts from your left menu. http://prntscr.com/h1748k
    3. Click the dropdown arrow to select font. http://prntscr.com/h174cv
    4. You will then see these two options added under the Font name: http://prntscr.com/h174iq
    5. Click Normal Size to expand options for size. Then click Save & Publish button when you’re done. http://prntscr.com/h174pe

The fonts can also be customized by Adding Custom CSS but you need to have an upgraded WordPress.com plan in order to have that option.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Regards,
    Rose

    Hello staff-imahappyengineer,

Thank you for your help! Unfortunately, I still have the same problems.

Yes, you found the right Gravatar, I didn’t make a new one, just renamed the old one. New comments are fine, but old comments are still linked to my old URL and show the old username (newhonesty).
It’s probably easiest, if I show you. On this post, I replied to comments I received. You see that the comment shows my old username and are linked to the old URL:
    https://casualtrainwreck.wordpress.com/2017/07/24/saying-goodbye-to-chester-bennington/

I know where I can change the font size in the Customizer. However, ‘normal’ is quite large and ‘small’ is extra tiny. I’m looking for an in-between and thought there might be an option I have missed..

    Thanks + Regards,
    Ben

  • Hello Ben,

Thank you for the sample old comments, helped me understand it further.

I did some tests on my website on this. It turned out that it’s not your Gravatar account that’s causing this. Your Gravatar is all good and updated.

See if you will look closely on the comments: Hovering my mouse on your username, it’s linked to your old WordPress.com site. See screenshot here. It has nothing to do with your Gravatar account. Your Gravatar account is linked to your photo, see screenshot here. Notice that I am on the same comment, and the Gravatar profile showing up on hover is your updated Gravatar.

Going back to the old username not updated on the old comments. I’m afraid, I tested this, and they won’t really get updated. This is how they’re mapped:
    *Comments (using WordPress.com account)
Name –> Public Display Name on your WordPress.com account
URL/Website linked to the Name –> Web Address on your WP Account Settings
    Photo –> Gravatar Profile

When people leave comments WordPress.com will take all the details current at the time you posted the comment. It will not be updated with any changes you will make thereafter. I believe this is also connected to the fact that we cannot edit/delete comments we make.

In regard to Font customization, yes that’s the best option you have for now. Adding Custom CSS will give you more options, but will need to have an upgraded plan for that.

I really hope this gets sorted out. :)

    Regards,
    Rose

    Hello Rose,

Thank you so much for your detailed response! It made everything much clearer, especially the problem with older comments. Yes, WordPress doesn’t seem to update the profile info of old comments. I don’t understand why they choose this system as I have never seen it on any Social Media platform. Let’s just hope, this will be improved at some point :)

Thanks for the tip about upgrading the plan. I’ll think about it if I ever have more traffic on my blog.

    Regards,
    Ben

  • Hello Ben,

You’re welcome. :) I believe it’s because we cannot delete/edit comments we left for blogs. Changing our username and linked website are probably counted to that limitation to delete/edit comments.

Let’s just hope, this will be improved at some point :)

Yes, that’s a great idea. :) I’d also love to get my details updated on my old comments. You may want to suggest that to the Ideas Forum.

    Regards,
    Rose
