Problems customizing themes

  Dear WP – Every time I choose a theme to change to – I can never seem to customize it to look like the preview and I can’t figure out why. For example, I am currently using Sela theme. In the preview it shows a grid which shows snippets of a blog post along with an image that accopanies the post. But when I set it up – It shows my latest blog post running. when I select that the home page be static but show a number of posts – that doesn’t seem to work. I am looking to create a blog that has my blogs in boxes laid out like a grid so people can click on them and read the post they want to read. I’m also hoping to create a new domain name and have it at ‘.com’ (the domain is available) and worried that will change the layout as well. Can you help? I know I’m missing something. But can’t figure out what it is. There are so many great themes that I would like to use but I can never make my blog look like the theme in terms of layout. My blog always has my posts running down the page continuously instead of listed in grids like displayed in the preview.
