Problems inserting pictures into posts
-
ACK! I’m frustrated! Why oh why do things like this happen: I position my cursor where I want the picture to appear (in the middle of a post), I click “add an image” and it insists on landing at the top of my post. Or I add 2 pictures one after another in a post, and somehow the captions from both pictures gets combined into the first, while the 2nd picture gets deleted. Or regular text from my post somehow gets added to the caption of a picture. I can usually just delete and try, try again (or go into HTML view) and it will get resolved, but does anyone else have these problems? Am I doing something wrong?

Which browser and version of it are you using please? Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Any outdated browser version can be upgraded here. Do you have another browser you can try? I’m asking as when others had this issue it disappeared after they switched to using Chrome or Firefox.

Wow! You are so fast and informative. :) I’m using Explorer 9.0 Thanks for the suggestions – will give them a try..

To avoid messed-up captioned images:
a) after you insert a captioned image, make sure the cursor is outside the caption area before doing anything else;
b) the captions aren’t editable: never highlight them to try change their formatting via any of the editor tools. -
My client is getting an error when she tries to upload pictures:
Unable to create directory D:Hosting2506629htmlblog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server? How can I fix that?

I am in the Chateau theme, http://www.fineeyefordesign.com. When I post photos on the main page > enter a caption > update the photo environment > update the post – nothing happens. The caption is not displayed. When I return back to the photo > edit – I see that there is no text written in the ‘caption’ field, though I just entered. It seems that the <Update> button in the photo editor does not work. Please help!

I am having the same problem as lyndasm. I’ve inserted 2 pictures into a post, both left justified. I wanted to change the order, so I went to the HTML view. The second picture disappeared, & the caption was included in the first picture. This happens a lot, & usually I can hop around & try diffeent browsers, but today I’m visiting, & do not have access to other browsers.
any other suggestions?

I’m using Firefox 6.0.2 and I cannot see captions on the images in the posts on your front page. You will have to contact Staff for assistance. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form. -

I can see captions on every one of the images in posts on your front page. When I click the “member” link under your username I see that you have a long term problem with images. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.
Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Which browser and version of it are you using? Have your tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookies
Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here.
http://browsehappy.com/Do you have third party cookies enabled? Do you have another browser you can try?
You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Sometimes operating system and/or security system updates can cause problems so check for known issues. When you make adjustments to your browser settings — changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security — you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.

Like I said in my post, I’m away from my computer, & using my son’s while visiting. I don’t like downloading new programs on someone else’s computer.
At home, I have cable connection (Road Runner), my son has DSL (Frontier).
When I click on the edit button, it goes to https://
At home I prefer to use Firefox, but also have Safari, Opera, & IE. My son only has IE 9, Version 9.0.2
As far as I know, third party cookies are enabled on my son’s computer.
The flash player on my son’s computer isnt up to date. I’ll ask him about updating it.

Greetings again, I’m back home & having the same problem of my post disappearing into one of my picture captions.
This worked fine last night, I added pictures to several posts (http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/51311-7da-cloudy-had-1-of-7pr-plastiks-kits-put-it-in-with-silvies/, http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/52711-fr-lola-fc1-had-7-of-youngs-indiana-thorntons-kits/, http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/6711-ali-had-6-of-shams-kits/, & http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/62311-alj-had-6-of-rustys-kits/) with no problems. I shut down my computer for the night, & started it this morning.
I’m trying to add pictures to http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/7211-caramel-had-10-of-sherbets-kits-3-died/ There were 4 pictures on it when I started. I uploaded the recent pictures & took a line break out between the last picture & the words “These kits are 9 weeks old.” When I went from Visual to HTML, everything after the first picture was in the caption of the first picture, & the rest of the pictures were gone. Before publishing the updates, I left the page & went back to the previous page. Went back to the edit page, took the line break out that I mentioned before & published it. I’ve tried inserting the new pictures again, but everything keeps going into the first pic. :(
The edit page shows as https://cafinny.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1537&action=edit
I’m using Windows XP & Firefox 6.0.2
Mozilla Firefox Yahoo! Edition yahoo – 1.9
Firefox is up to date according to Help/About FirefoxSince this worked last nite, I’m not going to check for updates, as I get notification of updates as they occur.

cutepaintgirl – I find it hard to tell from the edit screen how much room there is for pictures. I’ve started inserting them as Thumbnails, then I can get 3 in a row.
On the edit screen, I use the “Upload image” icon (first icon after “Upload/Insert” above the screen where text is entered for an update.) When you click on that, an “Add an image” screen opens. The tab that’s open is “Add Media Files from your computer.” Click on the “Select Files” button. This will open a screen that lists the files on your computer. Highlight the picture files that you want to use for the post. It takes off & downloads them to the post. The screen now contains your downloaded picture(s). If you’ve downloaded more than one, you will have to select which you want to insert first. The Title is given as the file name that you downloaded. If you want a caption in a box around the picture, you need to put in a “Caption”. Otherwise you will have just the picture with no box around it. If you want the pictures to line up across the page, you need to click the box under “Alignment” that says “Left”, I’ve found it easier to click the “Thumbnail” box under “Size” rather than monkey with the size of the picture in the post. You can see how this looks for 3 across in the first post I listed above.
I hope this helps. I’m having problems, also, so there may be a bigger issue.

Usually after the entry on the HTML page will be visible location of the problem, if you know HTML would be a simple matter of course.

I’ve been trying to upload a photo as a header this morning and it isn’t working correctly. Is it possible wordpress.com is having some issues with uploading photos at the moment?
