problems linking photos to external URLs

  on my about page: http://aubet.wordpress.com/about/

  i have 3 photos, which i’m trying to link to outside URLs. I have typed in the URL (www.southmountaincc.edu) with no problems, and when i look at the HTML, the HREF looks fine. but the link actually goes to http://aubet.wordpress.com/about/www.southmountaincc.edu.

  is there a way to fix this, or are you only able to link a photo to content within your own blog?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  On individual images, there shouldn’t be any problem linking to external URLs.

  Where/How exactly did you enter the external URL?

  Did you follow the instructions here:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/image-links/

  Did you enter a relative or absolute link?
