Problems managing header and/or featured image

I am setting up a blog using the Gateway theme. I cannot seem to size my preferred uploaded image so that it appears as intended. Even when I adjust the pixel dimensions to those preferred by the template, the image appears randomly cropped, not the way I want it. When I try to adjust the image to scale using the WordPress edit option, the scaling feature doesn’t work – the dimension not altered shows ‘NaN’ (?) and nothing happens. I would like my image to appear in the same dimensions as the Gateway template image (Manhatten cityscape), with my text across the image. Instead I get a narrower image at the top of the page.
Also, along the way somewhere I have lost the taglines across the image: they appear in my sidebar in the site identity space, but not on the page as published.
I have spent some hours with learn.wordpress and mucking around with my site to no avail and with confusing outcomes, and would appreciate any advice.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

wordpress automatically added a blog address to my previous post but the site I am working on and have the problem with is a different one: climateconversationscanberra.wordpress.com.

  • @joedt did you still need help with this one? Sorry we didn’t see it earlier.

Thanks – I’ve blundered on and seem to have got past the problem although I’m not sure how or why – maybe because I’m now using a different theme. This issue resolved, for now anyway.
