Problems posting with IE8 and Firefox
-
I’m new to WordPress. I’ve set up a web site that’s taken weeks, and feeling pretty good.
Suddenly, over the last 48 hours, IE keeps shutting down and zapping changes I’ve made. Update is *very* slow.
When I make a link for a .pdf document, and designate it for opening in a new window, that works in IE. But when I use Firefox to view the web site, once I click on a link, it opens, and then when I exit, it takes me completely out of the web site, even though I’ve designated “open in new window.”
With both IE and Firefox, I’ve had numerous problems getting things to center. And one change, like adding a line between items in a list, will delete the centring. All kinds of quirky problems.
Any help is appreciated!

One more thing I forgot to mention:
For a couple of weeks, I’ve had each individual page password protected. That worked for a time, and always asked for a password if I went to the site as a visitor, not logged in.
I think I recall it even asked for a password when I viewed the page from within the dashboard.
Suddenly, last night, I could see “protected” at the top of each page, but no request for a password, so it was essentially public.
I tried making the whole site private, while working on it, but that got rid of all the page links in the sidebar to the right. Those came back when I made the whole site public.
Is there a general problem with WordPress.com, or is this some local problem with my computer?
I’ve gone to the site from another computer, and have the same problems, BTW.
Thanks for your help.

First off, we really need a link to the blog in order to check things out.
If you have once visited a protected post and entered the password, wordpress remembers that through cookies it places on your computer. Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then have another look. I think you will find that you will again be asked for the password.
As far as the editor issues, about a week ago or so, they updated the editor here and there are some issues they are attempting to work through.

Thanks! I had to select one of my blogs to make this post, so I thought you would know which site.
It is: http://www.inthematterof.wordpress.com
I’ll try the exercise with password protection later tonight. I removed all the passwords and just made the site public, but that’s a little risky until I’m ready to go public.
Thanks for letting me know about the editing issues. I was beginning question my sanity!

I cleared the cache in IE8. I password protected the first page as a test, and I still see “protected” at the top when I view it, but it’s not asking for a password.
I will check back later tonight or tomorrow, as I have to go out now.
Any further help will be appreciated.

On “Roberts v. Barrett” and on the main page (which is one and the same) I see the password field.
If you are logged in, or if you have logged in before viewing the site, you will NOT be asked for the password since you are the site owner.
Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies again, restart your browser but do NOT log back in and visit your blog. I think you will see the password field.

Hi.
I’ve done all the above, and it is not helping. I still see “Protected:Roberts v. Barrett, but no login screen.
I know what it shoud look like because until a few days ago, each page was protected and there was a password box.
Four other people have gone to the site and they all see the same thing mentioned above — and not request for a password.
You’re seeing it internally, but it’s not showing up for the rest of us.
Please advise when you can.
