Problems Replacing Header Image
-
I’m using the “Pool” theme, and I’m trying to replace the header image. I created a replacement (a .gif) of the proper size, but when I upload it the old image shows through. Can you help?

Some more details would be helpful.
A link to your blog?
What does the old image look like?
What does the new image look like?
Browser browser are you using?
-
I gather this is your blog? http://bbornn.wordpress.com/
I’m not showing any mention of a uploaded image. Are you sure it got uploaded? Can you see it on your Dashboard -> Manage -> Uploads page?
-
I’m not sure but maybe try uploading it to another hoster and then putting the link in?
Alternately, this may seem like the obvious thing but are you sure you’ve saved the changes? :)

You did upload it through the Custom Header Image uploader, right? Dashboard -> presentation -> Custom header Image.

Yes, I’m talking about my blog, which is at http://bbornn.wordpress.com/. I’m using Internet Explorer 7 under Windows XP. To repeat, I’m using the “Pool” theme, which has a blue background with white lettering and a white arc descending from the top. The new image has a similar, but darker blue background, lettering in a different font, in white, with my tag line in black.
I created the new image offline in Corel Draw and Corel PaintShop Pro, and stored it as a GIF, 795 pixels long by 150 pixels high. Then I uploaded it through the Custom Header Image uploader.
The result was that I saw both headers! It looked so bad that I reset to the original Pool theme header.
I can’t imagine what I did wrong!

According to the FAQs, the correct size for the header for this theme is:
Pool size: 600*150. It seems you need to adjust your image accordingly and then try uploading it again. -
Arrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! You are correct, thistimethisspace, but….
I downloaded a copy of the header image via the FAQ, and as you and the FAQ say, it’s 600 x 150 pixels.
I resized my image and uploaded it through the uploader. This time the software offered to crop it for me! So I uploaded the header image I had downloaded …and the software offered to crop it for me.
I don’t know how big the cropped image would be, but it would cut off the top of my head and my tag line.
I uploaded the 795 x 150 pixel version and no cropping was offered, but the original image again showed through the new one.
I dunno …but it sounds like there’s a bug somewhere. But I don’t know HTML, or CSS, or whatever, so I’d never find it. I hope somebody can find it; meanwhile I’ll totter along with the original Pool theme. <sigh>
