Problems with activating theme

  I am trying to activate the genesis theme followed by a child theme but every time I try, WordPress comes up with an error message:

  ‘The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.’
  ‘ERROR: Stylesheet is missing.’

  Please help.
