Problems with API Key & Avatars (self hosted site)

    Hi,
I have a self hosted blog and am having some problems with the API keys and avatars. I can see the API key on my WordPress hosted sites, but not on my own site which uses the latest version of WP. I don´t see how I can register my own site here to get an API key to use Akismet. Am I being a dunderhead`? No API key appears in the profile page as it does on the WP hosted ones

Secondly, I don´t get how to use avatars either. When i go to settings/discussion I can see something about avatars at the bottom but not many to pick from and I cannot find anywhere to upload my own, or if I register new users, where can they pick their own or upload their own ones (or I could put them somewhere?). I guess I´m just a little bit confused. Is it because this is a blog not on .wordpress.com but my own server space?

    help
    L

If you have an account here (and obviously you do since you have posted here) then you have an API key. Go to “your profile” and you will find your API key right at the top.

Apparently you have solved the avatar problem since I see a nice pic now as your avatar/gravatar.

Users have to upload their own avatars/gravatars using the same method you used by going to their profile while they are logged into their account and uploading one.

Self-hosted sites do not have an API key. To install the stats or akismet plugins on your self-hosted sites, you will use the API key from your account here.

Many thanks for your help, yes, I was confused because when I was trying to get WP site to help me, it kept asking me to pick the blog it was for, and I didn’t see any option for self hosted site, I realise now I just need to use one of my API keys here
