Problems with Autofocus Theme
-
Hello! Over the last few days I have been experiencing two problems with my blog, TheLongWeekender.com, which is done in the Autofocus Theme. First, when I view my homepage in Google Chrome, many of the featured photos appear slightly out of focus, as do the teaser paragraphs when you run the mouse over them. When you go to each individual post, however, the photos are back in focus. Any idea of why this might be happening?
Second, when I access my site through the WordPress iPhone app (and I’m looking at the regular web version of the site on my phone, not the mobile version), the site no longer shows up correctly. Instead of just being able to see the featured photos on the homepage, all of the teaser paragraphs are permanently visible over the photos. I don’t know why this is happening.
Both of these problems began happening about two or three days ago.
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Maura,
We have had a couple other reports about blurry or out-of-focus photos like you describe, and our team is looking into the issue. I will let you know as soon as I have more information about what’s happening there.
The second issue you mention about mobile devices is an intentional change that our team made to the Autofocus theme. Since there is no way to hover on mobile devices, our theme team set the teaser paragraphs so they are always visible.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the answer about the mobile issue! And if you could let me know when you have more information about the blurry photos, that would be great!
Thanks,
Maura

Hi Rachel — just wanted to check if there was any word on what was making the Autofocus photos blurry. It just really affects the look of the homepage — I think all Autofocus users really rely on their photos being crystal clear.
Thanks again.

Hi Maura, our team thinks they identified the cause of the problem. They are working on a fix for it, but I don’t have an exact timeline of when the fix will be released. I’ll you know as soon as I have another update. :)

Hi Maura,
Thanks so much for your patience with this. The fix I mentioned previously has been implemented, and we’re hoping this clears up the problem you were seeing with the images on your site. Can you please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies and then let me know how the images look to you? Thanks!

Hi Rachel,
Thanks so much for your work on this. I cleared my Google Chrome cache and cookies — yet some of the images (basically the ones along the left side of the screen) are still not showing up in their full resolution on the homepage. When I click on each individual post, they are back to their full resolution. It’s so strange — the photos show up normally in Internet Explorer. Any other fix I should try?
Thanks!

Hi Maura,
Thanks for letting me know. Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service such as Snaggy.
The images look good on my end (also in Chrome), so a screenshot will help me understand what you’re seeing so we can keep working on this for you. Thanks!

Hi Rachel — I’m sorry for the delay in my response! I’ve been traveling for the last three weeks and I’ve been away from my computer. I’ve taken a screenshot of the blog’s homepage and uploaded it to my dashboard. I hope you’re able to see what I’m talking about! The images on the left hand side of the homepage — the domed building and the Golden Gate Bridge in this case — appear slightly foggier than they should be, as do the post’s date and the little blurb that pops up when you mouse over them. The images on the right hand side of the screen, however, appear perfectly normal and clear. I can really see the difference in clarity when looking at the Golden Gate Bridge vs. the Chicago scene to its right. But who knows, maybe this is just my computer?
Thanks so much for looking into this!

Hi Maura,
Thanks for that screenshot! It’s puzzling that this is happening to you — I am not able to reproduce the problem, so it looks like it may be something to do with the settings in your Chrome browser.
First, can you check to make sure that your Chrome browser is fully updated? https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95414?hl=en
Then, can you try opening your site in an incognito window to see how it looks there? https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95464?hl=en
If those images still look blurry, I’d be happy to keep investigating this!

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the suggestions. I updated Google Chrome and opened the site in an incognito window, and unfortunately, no change. It’s very subtle, but when photos are the focal point of the page, I can definitely notice it. Let me know if you have any other ideas of what might be happening. Thank you so much!

Hi Maura,
I don’t have a solution yet, but a couple people on our team were able to reproduce the blurry picture issue you are seeing in Chrome. We’re investigating that to see if we can find the cause — I’ll let you know as soon as I find out more! Thanks for your patience with this. :)

Hi Rachel,
I just wanted to check in and see if you guys have had any luck in determining what’s going on with the blurry picture in Chrome. Thanks so much!

Hi Maura,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you about this. Our team is still working on the issue, but we haven’t been able to pinpoint the cause yet. Some visitors to your site see the blurry picture like you do, but others (also using Chrome) don’t see the blurry picture — we’re still working to find out why. I’ll get you another update as soon as I have one! Thanks so much for your patience.

Hi Maura,
I’m sorry it took a while for us to work out a solution to this issue, but we just made a change that should help reduce the blurriness you were seeing in the Autofocus theme. I hope this helps! :) Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do.
