Problems with Categories and Posting
-
For the last few days, I’ve had problems adding categories and also publishing posts. The categories won’t update and after attempting to publish posts, it says:
Are you sure you want to edit the post “”? At times I can return through the back button and at times, the entire post is lost.
It happens on all of my blogs. What is going on?

This could be cookie related.
You need to clear every wordpress.com cookieLogout from here
Clear the cookies – you must be sure this has happened. If you aren’t sure how to do that, do ask
Then after that go to http://wordpress.com and sign in at that page.
Then try to post. -
If you aren’t sure how to do that, do ask
Be sure to mention what browser and version your are running so we can give you the corrent method to do so. :)

I am using Firefox 2.0 and haven’t been able to add categories. I have tried after removing the cookies but whenever I post and type in new categories [separated by commas] nothing happens. There is something wrong and I am assuming its not me.

I don’t know of any wordpress.com situation where you can add in multiple categories separated by commas. You can only add in a single category at a time if you are talking about adding one from a post “on the fly”. But normally we add categories here one at a time too -> Dashboard -> Manage -> Categories -> Add Category.
-
When you create a new post – there is a box which allows you to enter categories separated by commas and I have created about 10 posts in that manner. There is also a checkbox option below that to select from previously used categories, now for some reason, the “add” button for adding categories isn’t working.

I just tried to add the following categories `elephants, cats, monkeys’ on my test blog and it worked fine in both the regulus theme, in k2 – lite and in unsleepable theme. BTW my browser is a firefox2. It sounds like you may have a feedback issue. Edit: Just a long shot here – I used a space after every comma (elephants comma space cats comma space monkeys comma space) so I’m wondering, did you too?

I’m having this same Categories problem as well the last two days and I don’t think it is cookie related. I think it is MySQL cache related.
Using a space or not between the commas for adding multiple categories doesn’t matter. Either way will work.
Then there are times when adding categories in the Write interface totally stops working. If you wait a few minutes and then force a page refresh you can scroll down in your Categories window and see the new Categories were added but they are not checked.
You can also add single Categories via the Categories page but you’ll have the same problem where you’ll add a Category, everything will freeze up. Then you force a page refresh after waiting a few minutes and there it is.
I say this may be cache related because I had the same problem a week or so ago and it was resolved as a caching issue on the backend. It was working for awhile. Now the problem is back.
You know you have the problem when you try to add categories on the fly in the Write area and you click on the ADD button to add them and nothing happens.

Thanks for your help- timethief and boles. I did add a space after each comma but didn’t work. Something is wrong. You’re right I should probably contact the folks at WP.
Thanks for trying to help. Appreciate it!

You’re welcome and I’m really sorry we couldn’t resolve this. It sounds like both you and boles will have to send in feedbacks. Best wishes :)

I noticed that all of a sudden, using commas between category names made the second item a sub-category under the first one.
That was yesterday and today it is not working at all.
