Problems with comments
-
I have reports from regular commenters that they are being asked to Log In and some claim that it freezes up their PC. I only require a name and email and until recently have had no problems.

You might ask them to clear their cache, and to make sure they’re running the latest version of their browsers:

http://browsehappy.comPlease ask them to contact us directly if they’re still running into issues. We’ll be happy to look into this! :-)

Chris,
I have shared this information with several people who are communicating with me that they lose their sign-in information when they close the window. Also, one of my authors is having major problems and his system locks up windows when he tries to comment on my blog.
He has tried all your suggestions and still a problem.
I have heard this from 5 or 6 people, thus far.
I added this link and copied the email notification so they would have the exact information you provided, but to no avail.
One suggested that bandwidth may be a problem, but I am not sure.
These are regulars, so they are trying hard. I am afraid I may be losing new readers, however.

Only one is an author and yes, he has problems.
The others are readers and have no need to log into WordPress (at least, they never have before in over 4 years of commenting). Is this something new?
Does anyone that reads at my blog have to log in to WordPress????
All I ask is that they give their name and email address (and from the past, they can just make up an email address and get in).
Have you made changes that were unannounced or that I missed?
-
Yes, if they’re seeing that, it means they do have a WordPress.com or Gravatar account attached to that email address and would need to log in first.
We have details on the change listed at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/recent-update-to-commenting

Why do people who are not WordPress users have a problem?
I have had problems at other sites, myself and usually end up using an OpenID log-in as the only means to comment.
If I don’t require a name and email address, why does it still cause a problem?
Whatever WordPress has done needs to be fixed.
-
If they have a Gravatar account, they also have a WordPress.com account. They two are actually one-and-the-same.

Thank you. I was contacted by another commenter that mentioned that he was having problems at multiple WordPress sites. I, too, have used your recommendations (clear chache ensure the latest Firefox) and still cannot use my WordPress log-in to comment on ANY sites, WordPress or not. So, I use Open ID or Google Log-in.
I can have my blog Dashboard open in one window (proving I am logged in) and still not post to many sites with under WordPress.
There is still something wrong with the system.

Which WordPress blogs are you referring to? There are several self-hosted WordPress blogs are there which are self-contained and not connected to WordPress.com.
-
American Everyman was the one the commenter pointed out to me. Not sure if it is self-hosted or not (I thought those were .org)
John Friend’s Blog is a blogspot hosted site that I can’t use my wordpress ID to log in with.
As a matter of fact, no blogspot sites that I comment on will allow WordPress Open ID. Every time I receive “Open ID error”.

Sorry, above where I wrote, “So, I use Open ID or Google Log-in”, I should have said, “So, I use Name/URL or Google Log-in”. WordPress Open ID never allows me to comment.
-
You should be able to comment at http://willyloman.wordpress.com/ as long as you are logged in to WordPress.com and commenting with the email address on your WordPress.com account.
For the OpenID issue, try entering just buelahman when selection WordPress.com as your OpenID provider.

Thank you. I just tried a wordpress blog and my WordPress ID worked! However, I have tried multiple blogspot sites and none will allow me to comment after typing in “buelahman” into the Open ID field (which is my normal process). It generates a wordpress address underneath the box I am typing in, so I can see it as I type it.
Still doesn’t work for some reason.
I can still use the Google ID, tho, but it doesn’t provide a link to my blog (which is my preference).
I’ll work around it.
I have tried to get the others who are having problems come here to explain it, but none have thus far. Non WordPress users have no problems, whatsoever, btw.
Thanks for your help.
