Problems with custom theme

  Hi there

  I’m completely new to WordPress and needed to create a custom theme for use on one part of a Clients site. We decided to use WordPress so that people could sign up and upload their own backpacking stories.

  The first problem I have is that the comment form does not show up on the first post on the home/default page. It also does not show up if I create a new post, but does show up if I create a new page, but only on that new page.

  I’ve placed this line of code on the index.php page: ‘<?php comments_template(); ?>’

  As I only got the theme done tonight its still fairly basic but I want to resolve this issue before I begin adding any more to it.

  Also, how can I place a contributor register/log in on the page?

  Any help with this is really appreciated :)
