Problems with domain transfer

I have searched the forums here and have not seen any topics posted that answer this question, so here goes:
A few days ago, I registered a domain with wordpress.com. After doing this, I realized that I wanted the increased functionality of wordpress.org, and decided to host my blog elsewhere.
I already have an account with Lunarpages, so I requested a domain transfer from them. I followed the link that Lunarpages provided and typed in my domain name and transfer key. So far so good. I then entered the authorization code that I received from wordpress.com. When I submitted the information, I received an error message.
The transfer page said that my site was registered with a company called Wild West Domains. I called Wild West, and they told me that my registration information DID show up in their database, but that they could not approve the transfer because I registered the site with wordpress.com. I then sent an email to wordpress.com, and they similarly told me that they did not have jurisdiction over the transfer.
Now, I’m not totally web-savvy, but I’m also not a novice. I honestly have no idea what’s going on here. I have verified the authorization code, and all of these steps have been completed within 24 hours. Does anyone have any idea why this has become so difficult?

Did you look at the Domain Management FAQ? I thought there was a 60-day wait on transferring domains to a new registrar.
