Problems with email and new account

I wanted to delete an old account and create a new one. The first thing I did was change my old account’s email address to my other email address that I don’t use. Everything went okay, and it showed my email address as the one I don’t prefer. So I then tried to create a new account using the preferred email address, but even though I had already successfully changed it, it still said it was already in use. Is this just a matter of waiting for the site to respond to the email change?

Apparently, as per this FAQ (http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/06/18/why-cant-i-change-my-email-address/): “Do not be shocked if it takes a little while for the address to completely free itself up.”
