Problems with formatting
-
Hi,
I don´t write on the blog directly but on open office and then copy the document. I have been doing this all the time and it worked fine, but the last time I tried, the copied text loses all the formatting (in the preview as well as the published version). What can I do.
Thanks

Hi there,
Can you let me know if you’re using the Paste as Plain Text button, which is described here?
Using that button will strip all formatting from your text. However, if you copy and paste without using that button, formatting like bold and italic should remain.

Hi Jeremy,
thanks for the quick reply. I do it always by copy and past, right into the visual editor. The thing is that I have always done it that way (it messes up of the formatting a bit, but it´s still ok) and it worked. This time it worked as well in terms of pasting it into the visual editor. It appears fine there, but in the preview it shows as one long paragraph and I published it and it was the same, so I took it off.
Any ideas?

Hi there,
Are you pasting into the Visual Editor or the Text Editor? If you paste into the Visual Editor, it should retain the normal paragraph spacing.
In this particular case however, it looks like the issue is the following:
<p style="margin-bottom: 0;You can see this code at the start of every paragraph in the Text Editor. This is causing the paragraph spacing to be removed (or dropped to 0 really). Did you change the spacing on Microsoft Word prior to copying and pasting?
Just as another note, Microsoft Word is great for word processing, but it isn’t the best when copying and pasting formatting to WordPress.com. The formatting often gets messed up as you mention and miscellaneous tags (like the one in question here) get added a bit randomly. For the best results when creating posts, I’d suggest either using a plain text editor or entering the text right into WordPress.com whenever possible!
