Problems with formatting and More tag

Hello. I am trying to utilize the more tag in order to have a summary on the main page and the full article on the individual post. I have successfully utilized the tag. My problem is that I don’t want that summary to appear on main page. What code do I need to insert so that the summary on the home page doesn’t show up on the individual post?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is an error I made while writing this out.

“My problem is that I don’t want that summary to appear on main page.”
I do want the summary to appear on the main page, followed by read more, but do not want that same summary to appear on the FULL ARTICLE PAGE.

    Hi there,

When you use the More Tag, the content that you put before the tag will always show up on the blog post itself.

Some themes support the Excerpts feature, which allows you to write a separate excerpt to show on your blog’s main page. However, the Kiore Moana theme you’re using does not support excerpts. You can find a list of themes that support excerpts here:

I’d recommend keeping the Kiore Moana theme (which looks great on your blog!) and having that summary at the top of each blog post. That allows visitors who go straight to your post to also get a quick summary before they read the full post.

Another option, though, is to experiment with the NextPage (Pagination) tag. With that tag, you could put your summary on the first page of the blog post and then put the rest of the content on the second page. That way, when someone gets to the second page of the blog post they won’t see the summary there.

    Hey,

Thank you for the great response.
I am messing around with the pagination tag but it looks aesthetically unpleasing in comparison to the read more. I know that you can edit the more tag to read whatever you want, are you aware of a way to tailor the pagination tag to do the same?

    Hi there,

Unlike the more tag, the pagination tag doesn’t have a built-in way to customize it. If you’re interested in Custom Design, you can use CSS to style the pagination differently (changing the color, font size, etc.), but you won’t be able to change the way the theme creates those page numbers.

You could try adding a “read more” link at the end of your summary, to draw attention away from the pagination. Here’s an example of the code you could add to your text editor for that:

This is my post summary. <a href="[URL FOR PAGE 2 OF MY POST]">Read more</a>
    <!--nextpage-->
This is the rest of my post.

That way visitors can click on that and ignore the pagination part. You could even try styling the text in your “read more” link to make it look more like your theme more tag. We have tips for that here: Styling Individual Posts and Pages

    I hope that helps! :)

Using the pagination and the more tags is a fantastic idea. I’m going to play around with it a little more. Thanks for the idea!

You’re welcome! :) Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help with that.
