Problems with geotagging

    A travel site offers some of my posts as a feed, if they are tagged with a location. After some difficulties getting this to work (see here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/improved-geotagging?replies=2#post-1406696), it has all been fine. I just opened the map and clicked on the exact spot.

    But now I have tried to add a new location to a post, and I am just offered the option of either my current location or typing in a new address. Many of the sites I blog about are in obscure and / or rural places. I need to be able to locate them with a pin on the map.

    Also, the support pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/geotagging/ suggest that any geotag will lead to a note at the bottom of the post saying “I’m blogging from…” which I definitely don’t want!

    Is there some way to be able to point to an exact location? And some way of turning off that “I am blogging from…”?

    Thanks for any help.

    When you add a geotag to your site, it will give you the option to use your current location, which will be a pointer on a map, much like you’re needing.

    It will then indicate your location on the post. We don’t offer a way to hide the location because that goes against the reason for including it in the first place, but you could hide that information with custom CSS (which requires the Custom Design upgrade) if you needed to do so.

    This is the code you’d use:

    .geolocation-chip {
    display: none;
    }

    Thanks for the reply. My problem is that I am not blogging about my current location. My posts are about places I have visited. I am now presented with the option of current location or enter an address, which can only be done by typing text, then reviewing on the map whether the pin is in the right place and, if not, trying again with some different text.

    So many of my posts are about places that have fairly vague addresses. I can no longer successfully geotag them.

    Is it possible to go back to a system where you can just choose the location of the pin on the map?

    Okay, I understand.

    If you don’t want to use your current location, you can add an address to the search box, and if it’s understood by Google, it should work. For example, I can successfully input either my exact street address or my city, and it even recognizes the name of my neighborhood. GPS coordinates also work.
