Problems with h1 post titles — word wrapping
-
Hi everyone. I’m having difficulty figuring this one out, and if anyone can help me I would be elated. I’m stumped.
I’m using the Blogum theme and cannot figure out how to keep my h1 post titles from breaking mid-word and wrapping to the next line, rather than just moving the entire broken word to that second line. Here is an example:The title of the sample post is “Backyard Timeshare”. Rather than having only the “re” from “Timeshare” bump down to the second line, how can I get the entire word to that line? I’ve read up on alternates for word-wraps and break tags, and I’m just completely missing this one. If anyone sees my mistake and would not mind redirecting me, or referencing another thread, I would really appreciate it. Thank you all.

There is a non-breaking space between the two words in the title. Why in the world wordpress does this is totally beyond me and irritates me to no end. I’m constantly having to go into client’s sites and fix this issue and the time I spend doing that I don’t get paid for. The seem to do it randomly and without any logic.
Edit the post, take the space out of the title and then put it back in. Perhaps you might have to do that a couple times for it to take and put in a standard space instead of converting it to a non-breaking space.

Hi sacredpath, and thanks for commenting on this. It is really the strangest thing. I tried just what you suggested, many times and variations (deleting the space vs. backspacing; editing the actual post-test before re-adding the space; leaving post and going back in; trying to get rid of it in ‘quick edit’) — and nothing. However, when I was on the site and hovering over the title in question with my mouse and select ‘Inspect Element’…and then in the link tag for the h1 title if I right-click again and select ‘Edit Text’ — here I remove and re-add space and it changes accordingly on screen, just as you mention. It works this way (but obviously this is only a temporary fix, and does not change the real problem), but not through my wordpress.com page editor. I even tried many other titles with varying word lengths to see how they get arranged in terms of spacing and breaking — and none have the same problem. Is there anything I can do to affect the   ? This is so strange. Oh, also, I just changed the letter-spacing on the h1’s to match the rest of the site, so more letters are bumped to second line. This is not the result of any other attempts to resolve this. I could just change the title altogether… ?

Staff need to fix this, and not only here at wordpress.com, it is a core wordpress issue affecting wordpress.ORG installations as well and it is seriously irritating. If I wanted a non-breaking space, I would put it in myself. Makes me want to switch all my clients over to Joomla at times.

As frustrating and bizarre as this is, it is (somewhat) reassuring to know that it’s bigger than what I can do, as I’ve been wracking my brain to solve this one. I think I’m going to just re-word titles when this happens, as spacing seems to change when using different word combinations. In fact, I have three other long posts in draft mode right now, and none have this issue (although this problem has happened since starting to use the program a month ago when trying various test posts). It just makes no sense. Thanks again for all your help, input, and time.
