Problems with import

  • Unknown's avatar

I started an import from a WordPress export file 5 days ago. Nothing has happened yet and I never received any email either. The import page says it is still processing my import, is there anything I can do to get things rolling?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have reset your importer for you.

How large is your import file? Sometimes larger files cause the importer to hang.

    Super, thank you!

My import file was rather large (14,4Mb), so I guess that is the problem. I noticed that my pictures had been uploaded, but all written material is missing. I should probably delete all the pictures before trying to import again?

Is there any way to import in several parts to avoid a new hang-up, or should I just go with the flow and hope for the best?:)?

Since this is a WordPress import, you can try going to your site you’re exporting and create export files by date range, and then import them in chunks.

If that doesn’t work for you, let me know.

Gaah… I somehow didn’t manage to create several export files properly when I tried (I think I figured it out later though), so I decided to give the whole thing a new try. And it didn’t work this time either, unfortunately, so I’m stuck again.

I’m so sorry for the inconvenience I’m causing, but I have to politely ask you to reset my import once again. Then I will try to import in smaller pieces. I thank you so much for your help!

It’s absolutely no inconvenience. Our importer is a little cranky sometimes, so if it’s not working, we’re happy to help.

I’ve reset it again for you. Give it another whirl. :)

Thank you thank you thank you, it seems to work:) I tried to import a small file (836kB), and the stuff swooshed in faster than a lightning. But now, when I went to the importertool again to continue, it says (again) that the import is in progress and that I will receive an email when its done.

Is this “normal” and something that is going to disappear on its own, because as far as I can see the imported material is where it it’s supposed to be and looking good. Can’t wait to get along with the next part:)

Problem solved apparently, I received an email and am now able to continue. Patience isn’t obviously my middle name;)

There is always a bit of a delay when doing an import, as our system has to read the file into our database as well as check for image attachments, but for small files, it’s pretty quick.

Thank you so much for your help, everything is now imported succesfully and I’m so pleased!:)

    Hooray! That’s great news.
