Problems with Jetpack?

I am on wordpress.com I keep getting a red strip which tells me that there is a problem with not having the latest jetpack installed. When I click on the link to update it, it says that I do not have permissions to do this.
Can anybody help? I don’t think I have access to jetpack on wordpress.com so why am I getting this message?

Sorry it says ‘ there was an error retrieving your site settings, make sure your jetpack is up to date’
I get this every time that I go into dash board.
