problems with 'like' notifications in the blog, not email.

The little thing up the top that lets you reply to some comments that don’t appear in the comments column, and also has a star when someone likes your blog – sorry, I don’t know what it’s called – well, it’s not loading. Can you help?

I’m sorry you’re encountering that problem. Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?
Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Google Chrome?
-
I haven’t had this problem with anything else – or any problem with anything else, actually.
Shall try your link. And thank you
Keira

OK – I’ve cleared the cache and nothin has changd. When I try to ‘like’ a post, another screen pops up that has a wordpress address but remains blank. And I still can’t address comments or ‘likes’ in the toolbar (the little star or comment ballon)
-
To be sure, this happens in Firefox? Do you encounter the exact same issue in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome as well?
-
yep, this is Firefox. I don’t use any other browser so I don’t know if it would happen in the other browsers.
-
the problems seem to be piling up – it this part of the reason I can’t ‘like’ others’ blog posts?
-
I don’t use any other browser so I don’t know if it would happen in the other browsers.
Please give those other two browsers as suggested in my previous browser a try. This way we know whether the issues is browser specific or not.
-
I’ve not used Internet explorer in decades! And I haven’t installed Chrome. Should I clear their caches anyway?
-
If you could give that a try, yes please.
Otherwise try to disable the browser extensions on your current browser to see if they interfere or block something: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/2528-how-to-disable-add-ons-extensions-in-your-browser#for-mozilla-firefox or try to reset your browser using these steps https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems (this is different than just clearing the cache)
Thank you!
-
OK – I’ve just cleared chaches & cookies on internet explorer & chrome. Will now try the other link you’ve just sent :-)
-
the only problem with that is that I am not sure I can restore it if something goes wrong. I have security add-ons like adblock plus & noscript. I don’t really want to be without those and wordpress is whitelisted. It’s never been a problem before and I’ve had it longer than I’ve been blogging.
-
Hi there,
Add-ons like Adblock Plus and Noscript can block the code that’s required to make certain parts of WordPress.com work. (That includes the notification dropdown that shows recent comments, likes, etc.)
Can you try disabling those add-ons temporarily, just to see if it fixes the problem? If it does, I can help you figure out exactly what needs to be whitelisted to make sure you can keep using those add-ons but still have WordPress.com work correctly. :)
-
I haven’t tried disabling them, but everythng to do with wordpress is whitelisted and has been for a long time.
-
-
Yes, those could be related issues. Can you please try disabling the add-ons temporarily and let me know if that makes a difference?
-
OK, will try, but if this is the problem then that is going to be a real problem.
Will let you know shortly. -

https://wordpress.com/public.api/connect/?action=verify&service=wordpress
this is the address of the blank screen that comes up whenever I try to ‘like’ a post.
I am always logged into wordpress when this happens. I can comment without any problems.
-
Just to confirm, you tried disabling Adblock and Noscript completely and then visiting WordPress.com? (So nothing is blocked while on WordPress.com?) I just want to be completely sure that a setting in one of your browser extensions isn’t interfering, and turning off those extensions temporarily is the best way to be sure of that.
Next, could you check to make sure that Javascript and Flash are enabled in your browser? You can check here if you aren’t sure: http://supportdetails.com/
Also, are you running any firewall or virus protection software on your computer that could block content in your browsers?
Thanks!
