Problems with Mapping an Existing Domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I have an existing domain-name and tried to mapping my wordpress blog to this domain.

    What did I do:
    – I mapped the domain
    – I updated the name servers at my registrar
    – I switched the primary domain in the My Domains page

But then…I went to my DNS, because I thought that I had to change the A. record. There I placed the DNS of my old website. (jux-blogging site)
But when I noticed that my site was not responding ( a blanco page) I placed the new DNS from my registrar. (because this was changed after I updated the name servers at my registrar) But nothing happened. The site is blanco. Is this because I have to wait 72 hours, or did I placed the wrong code?
    Who can help me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Although la-aurelia.com has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers.

When purchasing a domain and domain mapping the content stays exactly where it is. All that changes is the URL and nothing else.

    Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase upgrades for the blog.

See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Only change the name servers – changing the A Records will give some problems since you would be sending everyone somewhere other than WordPress.COM

You have the domain mapping but as @TT noted above there is an issue with the name servers – ask your registrar for help changing the name servers if you are having problems

If you have email with your custom domain name – you have a bit more work to do – see below for some options

    Email for custom domain names
