Problems with menu and categories

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, good afternoon. The first problem I have is that Pendant won’t let me edit the menu. I’ve tried changing the theme, editing the menu, and going back to Pendant, but changes I make to another theme don’t stick to the menu.
The second problem is related to the categories: only the checked posts in each category should appear, but all the posts in all the categories appear. I do not know what else to do.
I hope you can help me. Thank you very much.

Here you can understand what I am saying very well: https://lalibretac.wordpress.com/

  • Hey there,

I’ve tried changing the theme, editing the menu, and going back to Pendant, but changes I make to another theme don’t stick to the menu.

Right now I just see a category list, actually — is that the menu you’re referring to? The regular menu seems to have been edited out of the theme, but you can add it back:

The second problem is related to the categories: only the checked posts in each category should appear, but all the posts in all the categories appear.

Hmm, can you clarify what you mean by checked? All posts within a category will typically show on a category page, fiy, but there are ways to filter which posts will show. I can’t quite tell from what you have what you’re hoping to do. Let us know and we’ll go from there. Cheers!

    Hey there,
Well, in the end I managed to fix the problem I had with the web menu.
But I don’t know what to do so that (when trying to access each of the three categories: artists, letters and opinion) only the entries marked as the category in question appear.
I mean, before if I clicked on artists, all the entries on the web would appear regardless of whether they were marked as another category. Right now there are no entries in any category when I click on them although the entries have their category assigned. And I would like to know how I can solve it so that in each category the entries that should appear appear.
I hope I explained it better, because yesterday I made some changes and my message was no longer good.
Thank you very much for the quick answer.
    I stay tuned for news.

  • Hi there,

So, I took a look at your category archives page, and the query loop block is there but appears to be missing content. I don’t know if it were inadvertently deleted, but that would be the reason you are not seeing your posts on your category pages.

Therefore, you will need to add a new query loop block and select the appearance you want which will in turn populate the page with the blocks needed to display your posts. For information on how to add the query loop block please visit our support page here:

Hello! It is done. But all the entries that I have published on the page appear regardless of the category.
I need that in each category only the entries that belong to that specific one appear. I’m on the archive page, but I don’t know what to add to make it filter this way (artists appearing in the artists category, letters in letters and opinion articles in opinion, and not all together).
Because with the query loop block, carousel and content block it forces me to filter only one category so that I discard the other two (for example filter with the artists category and discard opinion and letters). So when I access opinion I only get the entries of artists and if I access the letters category I also get only the publications of the artists category.
    I stay tuned for news.

  • Hi there,

This is happening because you’ve instead the Blog Posts block instead of the Query Loop block as staff-doublebassd suggested.

The Query Loop block will allow you to correctly display your posts in each category.

    Hello!

As I said before, I tried using the Query Loop block, Carousel, Blog Posts, etc. And the problem still being the same: All the entries that I have published on the page appear regardless of the category.

I need that in each category only the entries that belong to that specific one appear. I’m on the archive page, but I don’t know what to add to make it filter this way (artists appearing in the artists category, letters in letters and opinion articles in opinion, and not all together).

Because with the suggested blocks (query loop block, carousel, content block) it forces me to filter only ONE category so that I discard the other two (for example filter with the artists category and discard opinion and letters). So when I access opinion I only get the entries of artists and if I access the letters category I also get only the publications of the artists category. Doesn’t matter what category is chosen, the posts showed will be the same on every category.

    I stay tuned for news.

  • Hi, I think I found the issue. It would probably be easier for you to just revert the changes to the archives page, and I’d recommend that if you are still struggling.

But if you want to see the setting, edit the archives page template, click on the query loop, and then click the “gear” icon so you can see its settings. There’s a setting for this:

    Inherit query from template
Toggle to use the global query context that is set with the current template, such as an archive or search. Disable to customize the settings independently.

That is toggled off. It needs to be toggled on.

    Can you try that?

Hello! Exact! The solution has been to activate the Inherit query from template option. Thank you very much, I was already desperate hahaha.
I deeply appreciate the speed with which you have attended me and the multiple advices you have given me.
    Happy summer! Cheers
