I recently sent a link to a friend for my blog post ‘Glimpses of Culture Through a Lava Flow: Bomb the Crater of Clean your house.’ The recipient of the link said that it sent him to a ‘shady sight’ instead. Can someone at WordPress investigate this?

Thanks for responding. I also sent myself the link above and had no problem. I don’t know what my “friend” meant by “shady site.”(The guy I sent it to is technically not a friend…it’s a guy who runs a facebook page that I follow.) Unfortunately, I don’t know him well enough to push for details (I tried but he’s not responding.) But I have no reason to believe the guy was lying.
I thought perhaps the “shady site” thing might not happen with everyone who clicks the link, but that’s an assumption based on my own ignorance about how all this works. :)
Either way, I’m still scratching my head. But again, I appreciate your effort to try the link and also for taking time to respond.

That is strange. I wouldn’t consider your site “shady”, so I’m assuming he did get redirected elsewhere. 😂
The only thing I can think of would be that Facebook sometimes creates its own custom redirections, though I doubt it would really change the final destination — your site.
Maybe the staff has other ideas. I’ve added the modlook tag so they can have a look.
Do you know if that has happened with anyone else?

If someone is being redirected when they try to open a link to your site the most likely cause is malware on their own computer that’s hijacking the link.
If they’re viewing your site on a mobile device it’s also possible it might be an advertisement causing this – a current problem across the online ad industry at the moment are ads on mobile devices that cause unexpected redirects like these. In that case, the person can report the ad to us and we can try to block it from our end, but to do that we’d need detailed information about their device, their IP address and also the ad itself.
