Problems with my new website
-
I recently made my website go ‘live’ and I have since received several comments from people that it is not appearing as it should on their computers. Further questioning has revealed that the problem is caused by different BROWSERS, and possibly different OS platforms. Any suggestions how to resolve this issue please?

Hi There,
I have open your site for testing purpose in Windows 10 Chrome and Microsoft Edge browser, site looks good. I have also tried on anorid phone with chrome browser, didn’t found any issue with site. In case you can provide issue screen shot or further details for investigation, which enable quick resolution from WordPress.com staff.
I am tagging this thread to modlook, staff can help you with issue.
Hope this help.

Hi there,
I tested your site on all major web browsers and it is displayed correctly without any issues. Can you please ask your site’s visitors to grab a screenshot of how it is displayed on their computer and send it over? They can use a tool like https://snag.gy/ to quickly grab a screenshot.

Hi again
I have got the screen grabs but cannot see how to attach them to send via this forum. Please advise how to do this. Thanks -

Judging by the screenshots I see that they’re using Windows XP and the Chrome web browser. Chrome ended support for Windows XP three years ago and hasn’t released an update since. So this might be the reason for those display issues. I recommend trying a different browser and see if the site is displayed correctly.

Thx fstat but I don’t think it is up to me to advise any visitors to my humble website to use newer software to view it properly.
I shall consult with my IT software developer son and see what he suggests.
Thanks for looking into anyway. -
Browsers are what render the code of websites into something viewable and interactive, so in this sense they are a valuable part of this equation.
Google pulled the plug on Chrome for Windows XP in April of 2016, so that’s 3 years of new web technology and security vulnerability fixes that they’re missing.
I did a quick check, and unfortunately, it would appear that all major browsers now require at least Windows 7.
For these folks, it may just be time to update Windows. Microsoft’s support for Windows XP ended in April of 2014, so that’s 5 years of security vulnerability fixes that they’re missing out on, and that’s pretty important: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/end-of-xp-support
If it helps, we have a site that lists the current version of all browsers at https://browsehappy.com/
