Problems with the theme
-
Hi, yesterday i was checking my blog and i found that the was messed up. the sidebar ahd dissapeared, and so was the body background.
At first i thought about reloading the page as im on a wifi area (and the connection is pretty slow sometimes) but the problem remainde. So i deleted all private data (cookies etc) from firefox but still didnt work. I even tried to change the theme and then switch back to the previious one but all the themes i applied had the same issue.
So my question is: is this a problem with my computer, or theres something wrong in the wp server? has anyone experienced this too? any other thing i can try?
thx!!

It is probably your use of READ MORE. They have developed a tendency to split Div tags. You’ll need to look through your code and make sure that if you have an opening < div > tag you also have a closing < / div > tag, and that they are all on the SAME side of the MORE, either before or after.

ok, i checked the latest post before poltergeists started to happen and there was a <div> tag splitted by the <!–more–>. after correct that things are ok now. i’ll aftert that in the future!
thx!!!

I’m not sure if I should post here, or start a new topic since it said it was resolved. It is the same issue, though, and I didn’t understand the previous answer, so I thought I’d try my luck anyway.
I have this problem as well, and it just started yesterday. My third column (second of widgets) has disappeared, and, as much as I play with it, I can’t make them come back.
I’m using Digg 3 Column (which I really dig) and my blog address is: http://lyricalfool.wordpress.com
Thanks for any help.

Adding: They’ll show up on my second page (i.e., within a post) but not on the front page of the blog.

The image in “april fool so far” is too wide for the theme. You need to make it narrower. You can do this by opening the post for edit, clicking on the image to highlight it, and then grabbing one of the corner handles to make it narrower. Using a corner handle will maintain proportion.

Hey, thanks for the response on this! Ok, I’ve been trying, and now it’s much smaller and still no good. What I don’t understand, though, is how inside of the post itself, there are other images which are original size — and the second sidebar shows up.
I just double checked it. I’ve made it much smaller, obviously fitting in the middle column, and it’s still not working.
It was fine yesterday. Today I started adding several posts, and it disappeared.

With the latest upgrade, WP.com has become much more sensitive to all the issues that break the theme: images too wide, split div tags, pasting from Word, etc. I recommend you set your blog to display only one post at a time and work backwards until you find the one causing the problem.

Thanks for the advice, raincoaster. Unfortunately, it means nothing because I don’t understand it. I’m technologically incompetent. I took the picture off the main page of the blog and it’s still broken.
Within the post, however (where the problem should, at least in my mind, be duplicated if the issue is the same?), it’s fine.
I’ve made the pictures smaller. I’ve taken them off the front page (the only one with a problem). I don’t know what more I can do.
