problems with uploading photos

I’m having issues with uploading some photos to my blog. I try to upload a photo, but then I get a message saying “HTTP error.” Has anyone ever experienced that? Is it an issue with the site or could it be an issue with the photo files?

I think I found the problem – it looks as if the WordPress server was choking to death on my so-huge-it’s-ridiculous photo files. But a quick resizing in Photoshop seems to have done the trick.
