Problems with WordPress

I am having major issues with WordPress. I cannot download the urgent upgrades that are available (I am continually receiving emails about possible security issues for not doing so). My admin pages just go to a blank screen whenever I try to fix the issue. Further, I cannot post anything either, and it does not allow me to upload photos. This has been going on for at least week, and it is very stressful because I am a full time blogger and I rely on a having a site that allows me to make the necessary updates and to publish new content to my readers.
I was considering changing platforms – I cannot even access the plugins page to allow page migration.
