Product Catalog

We are planning to add a product catalogue to our site which hasn’t existed before (no cart requirements and our products have individual quotes, so its very simple image + information about our products). My colleague is planning to use posts to list each product in a grid layout, but I have seen that there are plugins available for product catalogues, and that we could potentially link this to cart functionality later if we wanted to?
Are there any drawbacks in using posts for listing products that we should be aware of?
    Thanks. Kate.

    Hi there,

Yes, there are many plugins which can be used to add products catalogs & cart functionality out of which woocommerce is most widely used a plugin for e-commerce functionality.

For using Any type of plugins at wordpress.com you need to have WordPress.com business plan
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks!

    Thanks neelgajjar :)

Other than the woocommerce basket and other various e-commerce functionality that we would be able to add later (but don’t need just now)…. is there anything bad about using posts for listing products?
i.e. could this affect our site’s SEO or affect the way search engines interpret the content/info? Could comments be something which will make products listed as posts a more difficult thing to manage (spam) or anything else?
What we want to list is really simple, so my colleague is very keen to leave it as using posts without adding another plugin, but I’m not so sure if this is the best way?

    Thanks,

    Kate.
