Product Rental E-Shop Business Model
-
I’d like to know if it’s possible to build a Product Rental business out of WP + Woocommerce. I’ve contacted Stripe and they said it’s achievable but they told me to check with WP Support first.
I’ll open a rental business and I need a payment platform that will hold card details from the customer until the product is returned. I will be creating a legal contract for the customer to sign before renting my products to state that if it is not returned or is damaged then the customer is liable to pay the full price of the product.
Basically, I need a platform/system to hold customers’ card details for a certain amount of time – until the item is returned to me. If the item is unreturned/damaged then the customer is charged via the system holding the card details.
Can it be done with WordPress + Woocommerce?
Any tips/advices?Thank you very much!

Hi there!
What you’re wanting to do will require a WordPress.com Business plan because it’ll take an array of third party plugins to add the functionality that you’re looking for. However, it will take a dedicated expert or team of experts to build and launch the site, which is beyond the scope of support that we can provide at WordPress.com.
We have a Built by WordPress.com service that you could purchase and they’d do all the work for you!
Otherwise, if you have general presales questions about WooCommerce, you can ask them here by selecting “before you buy”:
https://woocommerce.com/my-account/create-a-ticket/
I hope that helps!

Hi!
Thanks for your reply.
What I meant was if there’s any particular theme that comes with the e-commerce features I need already setup?
Cheers,

Hi there,
We indeed have an extension for rental services that appears to address what you are needing:
https://woocommerce.com/products/rental-products/
It is 40% off this week as well, so take a look. If you have any questions, you can reach out to the WooCommerce presales team here:
https://woocommerce.com/my-account/create-a-ticket/
Or in their forums:
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce
Thanks!

Hi Darnel!
Thanks a lot for the link. Two questions for you about it:
1) Could you please tell me what themes this Rental Products Woocommerce extension is compatible with?
2) Is it compatible with Elementor Page Builder?
3) As it’s billed annually, if I buy it now, is the price going to be applied just for the first year or all years to come?
Thanks.

Hi there,
1) Could you please tell me what themes this Rental Products Woocommerce extension is compatible with?
Generally speaking, plugins are independent of themes, so the Rental Products extension should work with any theme you choose. However we don’t have deep knowlege on that extension so I’d recommend contacting Woo Presales for any questions you have about how the plugin operates specifically.
https://woocommerce.com/contact-us/ and then choose the “I have a question about a specific extension or theme I’d like to purchase” option on that page.
2) Is it compatible with Elementor Page Builder?
According to Elementor, they are fully compatible with WooCommerce and that should include any extensions as well. To be safe though you can reach out to Elementor support since they understand their product better than we do. WooCommerce is fully compatible with the WordPress block editor however, which is a similar system to Elementor.
As it’s billed annually, if I buy it now, is the price going to be applied just for the first year or all years to come?
It’s billed annually and you do not need to pay beyond the first year but it’s recommended as they will not get any support or plugin updates (out of date software is the #1 vector for getting hacked) if you don’t keep an active subscription. However if you stop renewing the plugin will continue to work and will not suddenly die if you don’t pay to renew.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the advice. Already did it and I’m currently waiting for their feedback.

Thank you. Will do.

Hi all,
I’m about to finish quoting my customer to buy the extensions but I’ve got the last couple of questions:
After your much appreciated support and the research I’ve done to achieve what I explained above, I’m going to purchase the following:
1) Woocommerce Rental Product Extension (by 99w)
https://woocommerce.com/products/rental-products/2) RnB – WooCommerce Booking & Rental Plugin (by Elite Author)
https://codecanyon.net/item/rnb-woocommerce-rental-booking-system/148351453) WooCommerce Security Deposits (by CodeCraze)
https://codecanyon.net/item/woocommerce-security-deposits-wordpress-plugin/19988389My questions are:
– Do “1)” and “2)” bring the same functionalities?
If they don’t what are the main differences? If they do why the price difference is so huge?
– Could you please tell me if with “1)” is enough, if I need “1)” and “2)” or all of them?
All of them together seems a bit expensive for me. I’ve looked for the feature “holding Bank card information until the product is sent back” on “1)” and I didn’t find it, hence why I’ve listed “3)”.
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

Both plugins have the same functionality. Even though 1 doesn’t include “bookings” in its title, it does handle bookings. :)

I confident you’ll be just fine with only https://woocommerce.com/products/rental-products/ but if not, there is a 30-day refund period: https://woocommerce.com/refund-policy/ :)

Hi Mac,
Thanks for your quick response.
Both plugins have the same functionality. Even though 1 doesn’t include “bookings” in its title, it does handle bookings. :)
So why is “1)” 5 times more expensive than “2)”?
Cheers,

That would be a question of the developers of the two plugins really, we have no control over the price they choose to sell their products for.
