Profile?
-
After I log out (or when my cachecleaner does so) I cannot find my Profile. As a visitor to my own blog I can click on ‘Over’, but then I get an info field that contains the standard wordpress text. I put my webmail address there earlier, but it didn’t appear.
As a visiter I simply cannot find my mail address on the blog page anywhere, so that’s what I want to use ‘Over’ for.
What am I doing wrong? (Mail address was typed in and saved, of course) -
Lol.
In Users, Your Profile, Biographic Information:
‘Tell something about yourself. This may be visible to public’No, MUST be visible. Otherwise I wouldn’t put the information there, har har.
-
Every, every, EVERY time I forget to include my url…
-
I’m messing things up, sorry:
= I simply cannot find my mail address on the blog page anywhere =
means of course that I can’t find the TRAJECT to a mail address. I can put the address in a text widget, but I want to keep it hidden a bit.
-
I’m not sure I understand your issue, but would a contact form help?
-
Sorry, sorry. ‘Over’ is what my blog features and it’s Dutch for’About’…
‘About’ confuses me. I log out, so I can visit my weblog as a surfer, you know? En this text in the About-menu then tells me:
‘This is an example of a WordPress page. Exchange the text by information about yourself.’
…’Scuse me? I can’t exchange anything, right that moment I’m a visitor with no moderating rights!
That standard instruction text makes clear that ‘About’ is talking to the MODERATOR, and not to the visitor. Isn’t that weird?I don’t want to complicate things. I don’t want a mail form; I want visitors to be able to go to my Profile (via ‘About’) where they can find my webmail address. I don’t want that address all over the frontpage. In a widget text on the frontpage I refer to that address: ‘please click’About’. But I can’t insert the address there, it doesn’t save, I’ve tried it three times.
-
…This is getting more messy by the minute.
I just logged out and visited without any moderation rights via Google to my Dutch weblog.
http://planetbarebottom.wordpress.com/over/
In the blogtitelbar there is ‘Voorpagina’, which means ‘Home’. No possibility to go ‘Profile’.I did the same with my English blog. As a visitor, not as moderator! Titlebar there says ‘Home’ next to ‘Over’ (Dutch for ‘About’, but why the linguistic duality??). When I click ‘About’ I get this page:
http://planetbarebottom.wordpress.com/over/ -
Dammit, dammit, I wanted to show the Homepage of the Dutch weblog, the first link is incorrect…
-
I’ll close this topic, I don’t really need a Profile. The mail address is now featured on the homepage, so be it.

You have confused something: your Profile is where you set your general WP settings (such as nicknaame, avatar or interface language). It’s not meant to be accessible to others. To get to your dashboard when you’re not logged in, you add “wp-admin/” to the URL of your blog in the address of your browser.
And it’s not advisable to put your e-mail address in the “About” page, as it will bring you more spam: better use the WP contact form – not at all complicated.
-
@panaghiotisadam-The Profile page is available somewhere, I just can’t remember how I got there to mine one day…
-
@vandeurz – You edit your “About/Over” Page from your Dashboard>Manage>Pages>About. Whatever you put in there will be visible on your site’s “About” Page.
If you don’t want the contact form, which is the best way, write your email using the words AT and DOT with spaces around them instead of @ and .
-
WordPress must be the only provider who offers no ‘See my profile’ option…
Ok.
Justjennifer, no, that is not what’s happening, MY text doesn’t appear and the standard instruction text remains there. But thank you for a very good tip, I wouldn’t have thought of changing the @. This way spam generators don’t pick up the maillink, right? I’ll change it right away, thanks again! -
Hang on a second! If I am reading this right then the Over/About that you mention, is that not a page? If it is then go to Manage – Pages and either edit or delete the page.
Fingers crossed!
-
@vandeurz-it’s there, somewhere. I just have to remember how I got there! And it’s different than your blog’s “About” page, which does exist on your site and which you have to edit manually with whatever info you want as I mentioned above and which cornell also mentioned. (No need to delete it! It shows up on your blog!)
-
= it’s there, somewhere =
Other life in the universe; it’s there, somewhere! =)‘About’ is indeed featured on the homepage of my English blog. NOT on the Dutch blog, which only features ‘Home’. A template hitch? I doubt it; I use the exact same template for both blogs.
In Users – Your Profile I find a textfield for Biographical Info. I suppose THIS info is what visitors should be able to view. So I typed in ‘Test’, saved and returned to my Homepage. I see nowhere a Profile link or Page or Whatever where viewers can click and read the story of my life called ‘Test’. It simply isn’t there in the blogroll side of the homepage and neither at the top.
There you have the whole problem, justjennifer. Making a Page for just one mail address with a short explanation, well, it seems to me more practical for viewers to see the mail address mentioned in a Text widget on top of the other blogroll info. Straight away, so it saves a mouseclick.Question remaining, is why the Biographical Info does not appear on my homepage. But I can live with that.

Sorry-the link in your username is incorrect! The first time I went to your blog I used the link you posted about three kilometers up the page. :)
But I do think something is buggy if you are saying the English blog has the About page appearing, then why does it say “Over” (About in Dutch) rather than “About”? (screenshot)
This is one for Support, methinks.

justjennifer,
I discovered that I was registered twice as administrator with different names and I removed one of them. It was a scary moment…This is the Dutch blog with ‘Voorpagina'(Home) and nothing else.
http://vandeurz.wordpress.com/But I don’t think it’s important enough to mail Support. Everything works fine otherwise, these glitches are not really relevant. Just puzzling.
