Profile, about me page, linking from sidebar

Hi, I filled in the profile information and put a text widget on my sidebar with title About Me, then text paragraph underneath, but didn’t like the way it looked. Then I read in the forums you could make an About Me page. I made a graphic which had the text and put it on a page. When I previewed it, it looked just like a post with the header, sidebar, etc., and a third of the graphic was cut off by the sidebar. Is there a way to have a plain page (or just one with a header but no sidebar) for the About Me page? Also can you tell me how to link to the page from a text widget that just says “About Me”.

    Thanks.

You’d have to choose a theme that doesn’t display sidebars on pages. Most of them do.

You could just use the Pages widget, which would include the link automatically, or you can put the link in the text widget by hand. It has to be HTML code. If you can’t write code, you can make the link (and all the contents of the text widget if you want) in the Write Post page, then when it’s ready click the Code editor and copy the code there.

Thanks, raincoaster. Is there a way to see how pages for a theme look without changing your blog to that theme?

Yes. On the Design page you can preview any theme. Just click and you’ll see a preview of your blog and contents on that theme. You have to click Activate to apply the theme to your blog for real.

At least, that’s true unless that also has changed in the past two days.
