Profile Display Name

  Help me. When I post to WordPress sites such as:

  http://irish.nbcsports.com/author/keithnd104/

  I want my profile name (displayed in the post itself) to just be black and not “click-able” to any profile of any sort.

  I have spent too much time now trying to figure out how to disable this “functionality”.

  Hi there. On your account settings page, delete the URL next to the Web Address heading. This will unlink your blog from your username. Save your settings. https://wordpress.com/me/account

  Note that if people click on your Gravatar picture next to your username it will still take them to your Gravatar profile (not your blog). You can set your Gravatar profile to hidden if you don’t want that to happen either. See here for instructions: http://en.gravatar.com/support/profile-privacy/

  THANKS for the reply! Figured out part of the problem (on my part). Changing what you suggested will only affect FUTURE posts. I assumed (incorrectly obviously) that the changes I had made (prior to making this request for help actually) would affect the past post – that it would affect “my profile”. Nope! So any comment one makes, whatever said URL setting one has / had at the time of the post, well, it will always be that forever and ever. It’s an interesting coding / approach on the part of the WordPress folks… And not in a good way… Thanks again!

  That’s correct. The reason is that the Gravatar link is cached at the moment you make that comment, and my guess is it will take too many system resources to go change all of those links.

  Furthermore, the owner of the blog where you commented has the ability to remove or edit those links with comments on their blogs. Let’s say you left a comment on a blog and that blog’s owner removed or edited that link for whatever reason, as is their right. Now you change the link and the system goes and add it back without the blog owner knowing… It gets complicated pretty fast, which is why, I think, they chose to do it this way.
