Profile security
-
I haven’t used wordpress for years.
My work just created an online training platform (probably through wordpress) and I discovered that my profile picture was automatically chosen. No information about this was sent to me.
I tried to change the picture but can’t do that without now logging in to gravatar (???). I tried to delete my account but this can’t be done.
I feel that data privacy from wordpress side is shocking. I want to write them an email but just get redirected to a forum.
Aweful!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM accounts and Gravatar accounts are one in the same so be clear on that. http://blog.gravatar.com/2013/04/03/gravatar-and-wordpress-com-together-forever/
No gravatar image appears unless you choose to upload one and you did that http://en.gravatar.com/johannesvopelius
You can change the image. Go to Dashboard > Settings > General to do that.
-
Gravatars/blavatars (favicons) do not show up instantly after uploading them. Gravatar images are cached and frequently take several days to display after a change.
Dashboard → Settings → General
Do not keep uploading!
Do not forget to select an image rating.See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/gravatars/For best practices for uploading gravatars, avatars and blavatars scroll down to below the video here: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/24/gravatar-avatar-blavatar/
To enable Gravatar display and hovercard display on your blog go to > Settings > Discussion and scroll way done the page to “Avatars”.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Of course I uploaded the profile picture myself (to what used to be wordpress) but I did not expect it to come up on my work’s platform without my consent.
Still taken aback by the fact that I am not allowed to delete my account…

Registering an account here required
(1) your consent to the Terms of Service http://wordpress.com/tos/ and all policies made under it found in the support docs like this one http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/,
and
(2) an email address.Any personal information you posted anywhere was posted voluntarily. Both the email address and personal information can be removed or replaced at any time.
Here’s how to deactivate your account:
Although username accounts are not deleted, so you cannot be impersonated and have your reputation affected by anyone registering the same username in the future, there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
https://wordpress.com/settings/notifications/3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.html4. To hide your Gravatar profile, login and on the bottom right hand corner of your Gravatar profile page you will find a “hide” button visible only to you that you can click. http://en.gravatar.com/support/profile-privacy/
