programming error

    Hello. I was trying to edit my “leave a reply” form and was following some advice from wordpress forums. I cut and pasted a couple of codes as directed into the appearance editor, and they worked great. However, I was trying to remove the “website” line from my leave a reply form and I accidentally pasted code into the wrong section. I pasted the following code into the bottom of the “theme functions” and I was supposed to paste it into the “comments.php” section. Here is the code.

    <?php comment_form(array( ‘fields’ => apply_filters( ‘comment_form_default_fields’, array(‘url’ => ”)))); ?>

    When I clicked “update” the whole thing crashed. I can no longer access my admin page or the website. The display says the website may have a “programming error.” It even looks as if my whole wordpress login is gone. When I tried to re-login, I received a message that I never activated my account. I had to request the activation email be sent to me and I was then allowed to login but now I have a different display name (mtoddphd) instead of the one I had when I originally set up my account.

    Is there anything that can be done to undo the error I made? Thank you for your help. I will be incredibly grateful if you can fix this.

    Thanks,
    Melissa

  • I am afraid the correct place to ask programming questions such as this is, WordPress.org forums.

    This forum is only for WordPress.com users.

    Thank you, but I am a WordPress user. I ended up resolving this by calling the technical support of Bluehost. They were able to delete the mistake I made, which completely restored everything.

  • You are a WordPress.ORG user not a WordPress.COM user :-)

    I understand it can be confusing at first but please read this excellent page that explains the difference.
