Project container for projects(pages)
-
Wordpress free version.
Hi. I use the Category item as a Portfolio tab for my site. I add Projects to it, so they display as a grid.
I want to put them in pockets or containers. For example I have 3 Projects that have stuff in each of them to categorize as Art. I have other Projects that are for example 3D models. And I have another type of Projects that are other things.
Instead of displaying all of them in the grid in the category Portfolio, is there a way to make them so:
Project (or project container) : Art
I want to put my Art projects in there.Project (or container): Models
I put my model projects (pages) there. And so on, it is OK the clicking steps to be:
Portfolio > Displays Art, Models, Other > Clicking e.g Art displays the Art projects in a grid
Is there a way if you get what I mean?

Hi there,
The main Portfolio page will display all published projects on the site, with the most recently published first. There’s no way to modify this – the Portfolio page is like a site’s Posts page, i.e. it’s generated automatically based on the available content, and the display is controlled by the theme.
To display your projects by category, you can use the portfolio shortcode, using the shortcode on different pages for different categories.
https://wordpress.com/support/portfolios/portfolio-shortcode/
To have a main page that lists only the categories, you’ll also need to use a regular page rather than the Portfolio page. On that page you can then manually link to the different categories, either using text links, or using image thumbnail links.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Ok, so this shortcode can determine which will be on top not whichever was last modified? And how are they separated ? I read about it but nothing happens or idk what I need to see.
I insert a block shortcode and add
[portfolio display_types=true include_type=Art]Next one should be another type, how will they separate?

Never mind, if I can’t separate them and have to use ‘regular than porfolio page’ then this won’t be worth doing for it. Any other way to keep them grouped or separated would be also good.

Hi there,
I’m hoping you can explain this a bit more for me, as I don’t think I understood from watching your GIF:
Ok, so this shortcode can determine which will be on top not whichever was last modified? And how are they separated ? I read about it but nothing happens or idk what I need to see.
Can you maybe clarify the layout you’re trying to create? You want a top section that has the broad categories your portfolio works will fall under, and then a second section below that shows the individual pieces under that category?
Do you happen to have any sites (does not have to be WordPress) that you are drawing inspiration from or trying to emulate?
I think it will help if we understand what you are trying to set up a bit better, as the block editor does allow more flexibility in creating custom page layouts compared to the portfolio organization tools built into the theme.
Thanks for the additional info!
