Project Types not working in Organizer theme

Hi, I’m trying to zhuzh up my website after letting it lie dormant for a few years and I’m having an issue getting my portfolio projects to behave in my new theme (“Organizer”).

You can see in this snapshot from my old site that “Personal Photography” used to have a drop-down menu the same way that “Professional Photography” does now, where I had the projects listed by Project Type, and then each link to the project type contained those specific types of project: https://web.archive.org/web/20240507024424/https://angelacalonder.com/project-type/new-orleans/

However the Project Type links (“https://angelacalonder.com/project-type/new-orleans/“) seem to link to my the Posts page (I made a single post called “TEST” to demonstrate this, should you try to follow the link) and don’t show the designated portfolio items at all.

I tried the WordPress chatbot, which suggested turning off and on again the Project Types option under Settings > Writing, but I don’t see that as one of my settings.

Does the Organizer theme simply not support this type of organization? Is there any kind of workaround or hack? Thanks!

    Hello!

The issue you’re experiencing isn’t intrinsic to the theme. What’s happening here is that the Query Loop displaying the content in your theme’s All Archives template is currently set to show only Posts, rather than whatever post type (Posts, Pages, Projects) is called for when the template is used.

    To fix this:

    1. Go to Appearance → Editor in the left sidebar of your site dashboard.
    2. Cick on Templates.
    3. Click on the All Archives template to open it for editing.
    4. Click on the Document Overview button (the stairsteps icon) in the upper left of the screen to open List View.
    5. In the List View sidebar on the left, expand the Group blocks until you see the Query Loop block and select it.
    6. Under Settings in the right sidebar, turn on the toggle for Inherit query from template.
    7. Click Save to apply this change to your site.

Your Project Type pages should now load projects correctly. 🙂 Please let us know if you have any other questions, or if we can assist you further!

    That worked! Thank you!

Sorry to keep bugging, but since you seem to know your stuff… you can see that in the archived version the project types were displayed with a photo. The way it currently appears, it’s just text: https://angelacalonder.com/project-type/new-orleans/

Do you know if there’s a way to have them tiled with photos in this theme?

    Thanks again!

Hello again! You’re welcome, and no apologies needed. 🙂 You can add a Featured Image block to the Query Loop in the template to load the featured image for each project (or post, or page) in the category, along with the project’s title. In this example, I’ve placed the Featured Image just under the Title block:

You can also add a Cover block here and select “Use featured image”, then move the Title block inside the Cover block to have the title superimposed over the featured image.

Please let us know if we can help with anything else!
