Projects that were linked to my Portfolio page are suddenly not found

    Hi, any help in layman’s terms would be greatly appreciated.

    Earlier this evening my website was working fine. I updated a project gallery and added a blog post and then went back to my home page, which is my portfolio page. Then I clicked on a project and got a ‘Oops That page can’t be found message’, followed by ‘It looks like nothing was found at this location’. Now all my portfolio project links are no longer working. The permalinks haven’t changed so I don’t know why they would be suddenly broken. I can view the content of each project when I click edit, so there is something there, but not when I click view. I also cannot search for the page. I didn’t tinker with any settings, so how could I have accidentally messed up the link between the portfolio page and every individual project?

    I am using illustrator theme and I haven’t downloaded any WordPress software, I just use the website. This makes it tricky looking through forums as as when there are suggestions like ‘go into this folder’ I have no idea what they are talking about.

    Some feedback I read on previous threads was to check the permalinks in settings, but that does not appear as an option heading in any of my settings. Maybe finding this would be a good start?

    I’m hoping some wordpress legend will take pity on me and offer a simple suggestion that will solve the problem. Thanks in advance!

    I fixed it by restoring a project back to an older saved version. Then everything worked fine for all projects again. Remade the edits I wanted but the problem hasn’t come back. So, I don’t know how or why this fix worked but I’m happy it did. So I guess my advice to anyone else is to retrace your steps?

    I’m having the same exact issue, only that the suggestion of going back to previously saved versions doesn’t apply to me, as I haven’t been editing any of the projects before the problem occurred.

    I have been changing some of the site settings, but haven’t done anything more significant than increasing the number of project thumbnails to be shown on the homepage. All of a sudden, though, all links to my projects lead to a 404 error – the projects are all marked as published in the WP admin and look as normal in the back end.

    I’m working on a private site, so I guess sharing the link here wouldn’t help. Anyone who had this same issue and can advise?
