Promote site

Hey there evrybody
Some time ago i saw on one of the pages “how to promote site” but i cant find it anywhere. I did notice my site gets more hits when i use tags in my posts. I also add my site to google but thats not realy nessacery since google most of the time already finds your site. So i was wondering if anyone knows a way to promote my site? Please dont say “spam this forum” or “spam other blogs” because i would like to see visitors coming to my blog because they like my writing style, not just because they see my name evrywhere.

There’s quite a bit you can do. If you already know your blog is listed with search engines like Google and Yahoo, the next step is to make sure you’re listed with http://www.technorati.com/ and to submit your blog to http://www.submitexpress.com/ which will list you with more search engines. If you use somewhere like http://www.pingoat.com/ to ping your blog after each post, it can make a difference too.
It’s also important to make sure you use good tags and categories when you write a post. Often they’ll be picked up by search engines and help to make your blog more visible, so using tags that match your content is very important. Also we have several threads in the forums where you might like to publicize your blog, as sulz outlined above.
If you want to develop a readership, visiting and commenting on blogs with similar interests to yours is the best place to start. I mean legitimate comments and responses to posts; if you make a few comments, often the blog owner and some of their readers will come over to check out your blog, and over time you’ll gain a few readers. If you really strike up a dialogue with someone, they might add you to their blogroll, and vice versa, which is a good way to get more publicity.
I’m sure a few other people will have some ideas (this is a common thread, as you can imagine), but for me the most important thing is to have a unique voice and good content. If you want a readership, you have to give people some reason to come and check out your blog; that means posting regularly and voicing your thoughts and opinions. Even if people disagree with you, you’re more likely to form a connection with people by speaking honestly than if you try to appease everyone. So for me content is #1. :)
