Promoting a slightly unusual blog

    Hello, I’m fairly new to blogging, and the literature I’ve found on promoting blogs recommends that you link to, and comment on, other blogs on the same/similar topics, as a way to help build awareness of your blog.

    My problem is: I (so far) can’t find any like-minded blogs. Mine’s on gift-giving (http://giftology.wordpress.com/). Although there are a couple of blogs that purport to be on gift-giving, they tend to be just product recommendations (“These flowers make a lovely gift!”), rather than actual discussion of the topic.

    Any suggestions? Please excuse my ignorance!

    Look for blogs about the occasions for gift-giving. Like weddings, graduations, etc. You’ll find opportunities to discuss your topic. Just don’t be brassy about it. No one likes obvious promoters making comments on his blog. Be sure to meaningfully participate in their discussions, and when its appropriate, mention that your blog discusses the subject. Be polite about it.

    5 simple tips to promote your blog.

    1. Make your name link to your blog:
    “Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to ‘contact info’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
    Now… when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won’t have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.”

    2. Join blogging communities:
    ” I would recommend going to some blogging communities and social networking sites. Also you’re new so it might take a while for you to build a readership that will keep coming back. I just say give it some time. “

    4. Add a watermark on the pictures you use on your blog.
