Promotion of crowd-funding campaign
-
I haven’t posted yet because I want to make sure I’m not doing something wrong. I’m wondering if it is permissible under the WordPress TOS to promote my crowd-funding campaign. I have reviewed the TOS and I see nothing that forbids it and it would seem to be okay if it is not a fraudulent or otherwise illegal thing. I’ll wait to hear something on this before I go ahead.
Thanks,

timethief: Thanks for your reply, but I think you have misunderstood what I am asking. I don’t want to build a crowdfunding platform on the wordpress platform. I just want to know if it’s ok to promote my crowdfunding campaign within my blog; the campaign is being set up in an existing crowdfunding platform.
Thanks.

I’m sorry I forgot to post the fact that I did tag this thread for a Staff response re: promotional advertising. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Both of the links you offered seem to go to the same post which is totally irrelevant to my request. Perhaps I’m confused?
-
I simply posted them for background information and then tagged this thread for Staff to respond to your question. Please be patient while waiting for that to happen.

Hi Evan,
I spoke with our ToS team, and if you took a post to promote and talk about your Crowd-funding Campaign and link to a donation page that would be fine and wouldn’t be violating our ToS.
Just an example of what would be against our ToS is every post was a Donation link as this would be considered linkfarming.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Would it be a ToS violation if you made the post a sticky, so it stayed on a site’s front page for the duration of the fundraiser? I’m considering participating in a fundraiser and wondered the same thing as etconner – whether it was allowed to promote the my part in the fundraiser on my WP site.
-
A single post is a single post – sticky or not, so I say “yes”.
The limitation here is not creating a pseudo blog that’s just being pimped out with post after post after post that all drive traffic to the third party crowd funding site.

@ifmomsaysok
You’re welcome. I’m confident that Staff will agree with my interpretation when they post here again. If I hadn’t been I wouldn’t have posted what I did but as you know Staff make the calls not Volunteers. -
Yes I agree with @timethief here. If the post is a sticky that is fine. :)
We really don’t have any issues with writing about a fundraiser and adding a link to the donation site. What we just want to prevent is the sole purpose of a site being to drive traffic to a 3rd party site.
