Proper Coding For Amazon Links

The Metivta of Ottawa [metivta.ca] is hosted at WordPress.COM and is evolving quite nicely. The Metivta is now an Amazon affiliate. I want to establish related pages with Amazon images and links — this will not be an Amazon store. It will function more as a library and use a classification system. The page directory is at —

This is what we have set up via Google’s Blogger platform (The Metivta is a paid Apps subscriber, though perhaps not much longer…) —

I realise the <iframes> are not allowed. I want to ensure I know what *is* allowed.

    Kindest,

    Hi there,

I can tell you that Amazon affiliate links are allowed as an exception to our “no affiliates” rule, which you can read about here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/

As for the rest, I would need specific questions in order for me to be able to give information as to whether or not items are or are not allowed. I’d be more than happy to help, but I do need some directed questions!

    Dear Amighty —

The Bookworm is a page directory with 10 sub-directories designed to provide our learners with opportunities to both browse virtual book shelves and to purchase relevant media through our Amazon affiliate program. They are not driven or directed to The Bookworm’s pages via SEO or linked websites.

What coding can we use to facilitate the Amazon affiliate program? Can we get permission to use Amazon code as is, or is there a work-around other than hard-coding Amazon images to Wp html? Is there a widget or short code option?

I suspect some of these questions may not be suitable for a public reply. I also suspect I have not asked all the of the relevant questions. Perhaps you can generalise the specific answers for the forum, though, because a cursory investigation of forum threads brings the topic up repeatedly and I think Timethief and other forum contributors will appreciate a generic Staff reply!

    Kindest,

    Arie

    Hiya,

The Amazon Affiliate code can indeed be used as-is as far as permission from us goes. To answer your other question, we do not currently have either a widget nor shortcode in place, however we do have a text widget wherein you can enter any html which you would like.

OK, so I can go the Amazon and get a text/image link that looks like this —

    iframe src=”

and put it in a text widget? Really?

    Hi,

No, iframes will not work in any part of our site. You will still need to use strict HTML in order to get your advertisement to display.

Please note I specifically said that as far as permission from us goes, you are welcome to use their advertisements. Code limitations are still in place!

  • Unknown's avatar

    OK. No biggie. Thanks.

    Case by case basis…

I’d like to offer books by Feldheim Publishers also. May I have your permission?

    Kindest,

    Arie

Currently we only allow affiliate links from Amazon.com. Any other items which you are looking to sell on your site must be products which you yourself have produced (if you are selling a book, for example, it must be a book that you have written).

A question and then a statement.

Can I hack Amazon img src html, after the img is uploaded, using wp.me?

Just received a one question survey from Wp asking me to rate customer service. I sent back “Just Great” but that’s not what I wanted to say.

Can you amend the survey to include “absolutely amazing”?

My apologies — I’ve asked two questions.

First let me say thank you very much for your kind words! It’s always nice to get such lovely feedback!

In regards to your question, I think I need some additional information on what exactly you’re looking to do. I’m cautiously optimistic, however when you say that you want to hack the Amazon img src using wp.me, what do you mean?

    Thanks much!

I’ve spent a lifetime in sales and customer service. I know both the rewards and the sorrows. So, you’re most welcome.

Amazon img links are some of the longest html code strings I’ve ever seen. Once the img is uploaded, though, a WordPress url is generated. Can I shorten that url with wp.me and then use that as an html hack for the Amazon img?

    A.

Ah. I don’t see why that would be a problem at all. You will just need to make sure that you are correctly linking back to amazon with your affiliate ID (no matter how long the URL, as any shortening will likely interfere with their referrer tracking). Where the actual image source comes from should not make a difference at all. It’s the link that is being clicked on by a customer!

Ah. Got it. Thanks. I think I’m making too much work for myself. It’s an ADD thing.
