proper fonts for the templates not working

  • Unknown's avatar

On two of my blogs, the post is not automatically being shown in the font the template normally uses. One is too large though I’ve left it there for the moment (http://lothiandragons.wordpress.com); on the other blog I had to scrap the post as it was multi-coloured and varying sizes, so it’s not there to see! I don’t do anything strange, clever or different with these blogs. Can anyone help please? Why would the fonts not happen as normal? I hadn’t posted on either blog since 30th April so I don’t know when the problem developed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What program are you copying and pasting from? The following is what I’m seeing at the beginning of the paragraphs on your most recent post:

    <p style="margin: 0pt; font-family: Helvetica; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 17px; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; -x-system-font: none; min-height: 20px;">

Open the posts with the issue in the wordpress editor, select everything in the post and use the “remove formatting” button on the lower tool bar and then click “update post.”

And wherever you are copying and pasting from, I suggest that you use the “paste as plain text” button on the lower tool bar rather than pasting directly into the editor.

Thanks thesacredpath. I just tried that and I can’t make it change anything. The button ‘appears’ to do nothing!

I see from the html version of that post that it says Helvetica and all that blurb, which explains why it’s doing it, but that’s odd. The post belowthat one doesn’t have any font blurb in the html. And I’ve done nothing different. Since I started blogging with WP back in Feb 08, I have always composed in MacJournal and literally copied and pasted it into the editing desk – with no problems and no straying from the template’s intended font. What confuses me is why this would change this week. All three blogs have worked consistently in this way.

But right now, I just need them to post properly. How would I do your last suggestion? I don’t know how to do anything ‘other’ than paste into the editor!

There have been some changes to the editor lately and perhaps it is having issues with MacJournal.

Use the “paste as plain text” button so that wordpress will strip out the code. Open the post for edit, go to the HTML tab, select everything in the window, copy it to the clipboard, then delete everthing in that window. Switch back to the visual tab, click on the “paste from plain text icon” and a window will open. Paste the stuff from the clipboard into that window and then click “insert” and it should come in clean with no formatting.

I just tried with my test blog, and the remove formatting button is not working for me either so perhaps it is broken at the moment. The above should clean things up for you though.

Another way to wipe everything out is to copy all the text from the visual editor, switch to html, and paste it there (but you’ll lose the links).

As for the “Remove Formatting” button, it never removed everything: it removes mostly bad codes, not undesired but correct ones!

In my experience, it has removed everything except for the HTML for links and images, but I’ll admit my experience with it is limited.

With Mac Journal, it is meant to actually connect to your blog and send the post to your blog, and the copy and paste into the editor could very well be what is causing the issue.

Thanks again, all. I just have to say again “it always worked with me doing it this way for 15 mths’ but I accept it now doesn’t and will try what you suggest! Very probably to do with any changes to the editor. Many thanks for your time.

ps funnily enough, on my third blog, which I updated last night, nothing odd happened at all and I did the paste/publish exactly as usual and it came out the same as usual. So it’s odd it’s just the two… Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Sorry all – just realised I am posting under two names. Blaxter is me too! Thanks!

I tried using the :paste as plain te””t procedure and it does not work either since the tags are “semantic” as Jane from wordpress explained to me. In other words the formatting done is done like CSS rather than HTML. That is also why the “remove formatting” button doesn’t work either.

Look through all the settings and such in MacJournal as it really should not be putting all the stuff in there – at least I don’t think it should. I’ve used BlogDesk and Ecto and I’ve played with MarsEdit and none of them put that stuff in – at least not when publishing the post directly from the program. I’ve never tried doing a copy and paste as that sort of takes away one of the advantages of using a blog client in the first place.

I downloaded a trial version of MacJournal and might play with it tonight.

All that code that was inserted is going to have to be removed manually in the HTML editor it looks like.
