Proper use of Hyperlinks?

    HI
I have added hyperlinks to links to news articles that relate to my posts. However it seems I can use either the whole url from the website or use a bit.ly or shortened link. I was wondering what you guys do? I was thinking on a links page I am going to making up to use the full url. Also since alot of my stories refer to news source I use a link back to them is that all I need to do? It is usually just a underlined or hyperlinked word.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I use the complete original URL. provided your are posting only brief excerpts from mdeia articles with a link to the original source there is no problem. The same laws that apply to copyright in the print world apply to cyberpace as well. However, copying and pasting entire mideia articles into blog posts is a violation of copyright and mdeia outlets take copyright violations very seriously.

Ok thanks for the advice timethief. I do understand copyright law a little, I know you can comment and parody news and other sources it is covered under fair use law. I viewed your blog and was impressed by the links, theme and the topic structure of the site. If you have a chance to look at my blog I basically do the same thing in using the hyperlinks, however I was using the tiny url or bitly links because the other links where so large.

I try to use pictures and graphics I have on my harddrive that I took over the years or have used a few from http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page. I try to follow these rules from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

Currently I have images at flickr however they are locked down at this time because I want through some creative commons issues with a user that was trying to link to my flickr site. I did a search for my user name , and found this http://www.thetrevorproject.org/float-nav.php?curl=1&u=flickr.com/photos/hewlbbac/page5/. I am currently working with flickr and digital social manager at this site trying to resolve issue.

    Thanks again.

When using links, it helps for SEO reasons to use the LONG form of the link. It won’t help YOUR blog, but it will help the blog you’re linking to, and people are grateful.
