Properly closing acount

Username accounts are not deleted. For more information, please see http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
http://wordpress.com/#!/following/subsettings/3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:

thanks for the info however this doesn’t work for changing the email address.
when you change it, you get an email saying there is a request to change the address you click on this and it goes to the page with the email address.
When you save changes, it just sends another email and seems to change it back to what it was before. You just end up going round in circles!
What an utterly stupid system. -

… and item 2 does not work either because there is no such setting as
““Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com” on the link mentioned. -
I didn’t even bother with step 4 as this just goes to a page called “how can we help you?” not what is listed….
