pros of a premium account (compared to having a blog hosted on own server)

  What are the pros of a premium account by wordpress (compared to having a blog hosted on our own solution server)?
  On this page http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/, it is said that one of the pros is that we can choose custom fonts and colors with Custom Design, or go under the hood with the CSS editor. Isn’t that smtg I can do if my blog is hosted on our own server solution, for instance? thanks for your help

  Hi Olivier!

  It really depends on how far under the hood you want to go and ultimately, what you want to do with your site. The Premium bundle is designed to provide the essentials for running an awesome site at WordPress.com without users having to worry about setting up their own hosting, backups, security etc. At the same time, it doesn’t allow you to install plugins or custom themes or edit “deeper” code like PHP or HTML. That kind of functionality is only available on self-hosted sites.

  To your question, editing CSS is definitely something you could do on a self-hosted site as well.

  Keep in mind, you could start with a Premium bundle here at WordPress.com as you build up your site and then eventually move to a self-hosted site later on down the road as well!
