Pros/Cons of Static Front Page
-
I’m wondering whether I should create a static front page. Thanks for the tutorial on how. But, I want to know more about the pros/cons of having a static front page. Can you tell me why I may/may not want a static front page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Well, that’s one of those things that is really a matter of personal opinion.
I myself, really only use a static front page when the site’s static information is more important than the blog itself. If your blog is going to be the focal point of your site, then I’d advise you to put it on the front page.
Does that make sense? Happy to discuss it more if you have other questions.

Thanks for your perspective. That makes sense to me. My reason for asking is that I don’t think I’m telling my blog’s story well anywhere, and I was considering these options: replace my about page, do a static front page, or write a hero post and feature it in the side bar, or <other suggestion>?
Thanks, Lon

For that purpose, I would think a new about page and/or sidebar “here I am” type thing would work better than a static front page. I’m of the opinion that the fewer clicks people have to make to see your content, the better.
